Recreation/Sightseeing

Oatman
The oldest adobe building still in use today in Mohave Valley is the honeymoon spot of Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, the Oatman Hotel. Oatman is just a few miles outside of Fort Mojave on old Route 66. Old mineworks dot the hills (see photo above), wild burros roam the streets and staged gunfights echo off the mountains daily. Oatman was once a promising community but became a ghost town after the last of several gold mines closed in 1942. Now it houses curio shops, art galleries and eateries and hosts several annual events, including the Oatman Bed Races, a July 4th Egg Frying Contest,  holiday parades and Old West-themed activities.

Katherine Landing/Lake Mohave

Located just north of Bullhead City and held back by Davis Dam and powerplant (pictured above), Lake Mohave is nearly 68 miles long and has hundreds of sandy beaches and coves perfect for sunbathing, camping and fishing. During the summer, Katherine Landing's boat launch is swarming with sunburnt, smiling people enjoying the great outdoors and warm weather. And during the winter, hikers and fishermen find their way to the best hikes and fishing spots around. Katherine Landing features a developed marina with boat slips, gas dock, restaurant, general store and motel. Travel north from Katherine Landing and you'll find Telephone Cove, Cabinsite Cove and Princess Cove. These three boat launches are not developed like Katherine Landing, but they serve as a calmer means to launching and loading. Telephone Cove, Cabinsite Cove and Princess Cove have restrooms, ramadas and designated swimming areas separate from the launch ramps. The lake is part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, protected for recreational use by the U.S. National Park Service.

Lake Havasu City & Parker
Piece by piece the London Bridge was transported to its location in Lake Havasu City. And piece by piece it was put back together creating the perfect place for The Engish Village. Gift shops and pubs are not hard to come by in this area. But Lake Havasu has more to offer than a historical bridge, the lake and beaches themselves are enough to draw visitors from all different kinds of places. California lies opposite Lake Havasu City making it a very popular summer destination. Lake Havasu is roughly 70 miles south of Bullhead City by road and can also be reached by boat via the Colorado River. Tour boats make the trip on a daily basis between Lake Havasu and Laughlin. Lake Havasu is created by Parker Dam at its southern end, and right below the dam is the town of Parker, Arizona, featuring riverfront state parks and campgrounds and a thriving Indian casino with a marina and launch ramp. Parker Dam, California is across the river and features riverfront RV resorts and camping.

Grand Canyon and Sedona
Jumping on I-40 and heading east for about three to four hours will land you in the Grand Canyon and Sedona areas. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon draws in people worldwide. It was once said that seeing a sunrise at the Grand Canyon is like seeing the first sunrise. Located at the bottom of this marvel is Phantom Ranch which hosts a hotel; you can also plan for a 3-10 day whitewater rafting trip down the Colorado River.

Sedona with its red rocks and steep cliff walls draws the second highest tourist number in the state. Nearby is Oak Creek Canyon which is near "Slide Rock." Here, visitors put on their swim suits and life-jackets to slide down the slippery rocks in the stream running through the canyon.

Las Vegas
If Laughlin just isn't enough lights and gambling for your blood, you can head up to the most popular gaming spot in the States, Las Vegas, NV. Why bother to travel anywhere else when you can get the excitement of Paris, New York, Mandalay Bay, Egypt, Italy, and Medieval times all within 20 minutes of each other? Las Vegas is also home to UNLV and a race track. If you need to catch that event, it's in Vegas.
